Solid Planning

Responsible Spending

What I Believe In - My Platform

Responsible Spending Improve the utility rate model and reinstate provincial funding into utilities’ infrastructure to immediately reduce your utility rates by 9.5% and work to make utilities more affordable in the future. Utility rates just climbed 20% last year, with more increases planned for next year.  We need to re-evaluate the entire model and return the previously allocated provincial MSI grants back into the planning model, which would immediately reduce utility rates by 9.5%.  Hiking up utility rates without just cause, as was done when the majority of council voted to remove the provincial funding from all utility infrastructure, is unacceptable.  Better money management and prioritization need to occur. Focus on keeping tax increases as low as possible by finding efficiencies and improving policies to put more money back into your wallet. Contract the services of an internal auditor, as recommended by the Deloitte  external auditor in 2012. SOLID PLANNING Reinstate the Municipal Planning Commission to attract development, improve planning decisions and give you a voice in the process. Better processes need to occur with land use planning.  Changes to neighbourhoods and dramatic changes to our landscape need to have a better review process by independent and trained individuals.  I will support bringing back the Municipal Planning Commission.  Its first task should be developing a long term planning document, to avoid our future being development driven. Work with businesses to find a feasible and affordable plan to revitalize the downtown. Protect  greenspace and natural areas.  Support affordable housing options. Advocate for the twinning of Ray Gibbon Drive and completing its connection to Highway 2. COMMUNITY BUILDING Support volunteer community, arts and sports organizations. Commit to maintaining St. Albert’s small-town character as we grow and develop. Support keeping Villeneuve Road open. I am a consistent and vocal supporter of keeping Villeneuve Road open.  Closing portions of Villeneuve Road will increase the amount of traffic in residential neighbourhoods as people shortcut through to get to the Anthony Henday and the Villeneuve area.  We need to ensure that emergency access from the airport and from west of St. Albert to the hospital is not compromised, as could happen if the Villeneuve Road corridor was closed. Work to relieve  traffic issues facing St. Albert.
